Have you registered to vote douchey?

Ok, yes, I am the douchey in question... I have been in a state of political apathy for the last 2 elections, feeling that being that there was no good choice from either party- I just stayed home and ate a pizzone instead of voting. Perhaps it's my recent addiction to John Adams or perhaps it's because I am seeing hope for this country for the first time in Barrack Obama- but today I registered to vote. It's not just apathy I have been feeling over the years, but it's also this feeling of shame and embarrassment of the general population of this country. Where and what is American Culture? Las Vegas? The disney land version of travel for adults- hey why go to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower when you can see it in Vegas and then go blow money you don't have in a casino while wearing a fanny pack you bought at Walmart for a nickel, then go to neon McChurch the next day and pray for forgiveness. I had officially had the ick with this country. When traveling with my husband out of the country I gladly accepted the assumption from the European community that I was either Spanish, Italian (which I am) or Canadian. I'm sorry to say it, but I was ashamed and I am ashamed that I was ashamed. Jigga what? Yeah, I know.

My grandfather came over to this country from Sicily with great hardship, a story a lot of American's share about their families... but less and less from the creamy center of this country. And even in my own family those scenes that could be pulled straight from the Godfather are happening less and less, and it makes me sad. I digress. My point is, I am feeling the hope of patriotism again and it feels good. If you haven't registered vote, it's super easy... go to www.rockthevote.com and DO IT!!!!
